Your Love's Not My Drug...Pinterest Is!

Okay, so Pinterest has been blowing up over the past few months, and the Kool-Aid? It's all gone because I DRANK IT. #drinkingthekoolaid

Seriously, guys, I've played around with a lot of collection-type sites (Polyvore, Kaboodle, Tumblr, etc.), but I'm loving the simplicity of Pinterest. There's practically no work involved, although if I keep pinning at my current rate I guess at some point I'll have to organize my madness. Lately almost all my pins have made their way into "Workin' It," which is basically a mood board for dressing for work--being all adult means that most of my closet is now devoted to work wear, and I re-realized last summer (after a particularly schlumpy phase) that dressing well makes me feel the most like me, so I've been making a real effort to find my work-appropriate style. So far that seems to be lots of pencil skirts, flowy blouses, and pointed-toe flats. More posts on work style to follow, I'm sure!

Sparse right now, but growing quickly!
But BACK to Pinterest! I've mostly been using it for fashion collection and inspiration (shocking, I know), so if you are like-minded and love Pinterest, leave your profile name and I'll be sure to look you up! You can follow me by following this link here or looking me up on pinterest with the handle @Robyn_Says (same as my Twitter name).

Have you gotten Pinterest fever yet?

Selling: Black Knee-High Wedge Boots

Hey all! So I've been on the search for the perfect pair of black boots for work, and I went a little spend-happy and bought a few pairs--thinking I'd see how I liked them and then send them back. I bought this pair from Gilt Groupe, LOVED them, and then quickly realized that I was living in a dream world if I thought I could walk in them. I'm TERRIBLE actually walking in heels, and with my metro commute, it's gotten even worse (I sprained my ankle in 2 1/2 inch heels the other day. No joke).

Alas, my loss (and lack of grace) can be your gain! I got a great deal on the boots--such a great deal that they're final sale and I can't return them, so I'm selling them on ebay. You can read all the details here, but rest assured that they're gorgeous in person--soft, buttery black leather with black suede trim right on the heel. They're really excellent--sexy, classic, and they go with EVERYTHING. Damn. I wish I weren't such a klutz.

Are YOU ready for New Year's Eve?

Because I'm not! While I don't really buy all the hype surrounding New Year's Eve (NYE)--and absolutely refuse to watch that awful-looking movie--I do like the idea BEHIND all the hype. YourTango.com did an article on the history of the NYE kiss, where the author explained:

According to English and German folklore, the first person you encounter in a new year—and the nature of this encounter—sets the tone for the rest of the year. A kiss is about strengthening ties you wish to maintain in the future. (yourtango.com)
So in the spirit of setting the tone for the rest of the year, how about some affordable fashion? Here are three great party options that won't break the bank--setting the tone for a fashionable AND fiscally-friendly 2012!
BB Dakota Sequined Shift--$66 down from $88
Available at lordandtaylor.com
Mesh Around Dress, $48
Available from nastygal.com
ASOS Mini Skirt in pink sequins, $31.82
Available from asos.com
Have fun, my loves!

Initial here...and here...

Generally, when it comes to jewelry, I'm all, "Go big or go home!"  But lately I've been feeling some subtle, classic styles.  Case in point?  Initial and monogram necklaces!  They feel like a nod to Carrie Bradshaw's "Carrie" nameplate necklace, but a tad more updated.

Here are my top 5 (all well under $100):

1. Nashelle Gold-filled Initial Disc Charms, $25 at South Moon Under
These mix and match with other pendants and charms to create a classic keepsake-type piece.  Lovely!

2. initially mine, $26 on Etsy
So cute and tiny!  Perfect for layering with other necklaces as done here.

3. Calligraphy Initial Necklace, $38 on Etsy
I can see some of my preppy college ladies looking fantastic in this necklace.  Very girly and sweet!

4.  Cursive Initial Pendant, $35 at Max and Chloe
This one is my personal favorite.  I love how the "r" is abstract enough that it doesn't look like a letter unless you know what you're looking for- an artsy twist on such a classic piece!

5.  "i carry your heart," $25 on Etsy
Very Valentine's Day appropriate!

What's y'all's take on personalized jewelry?
Cliched and dated, or cute and classic?

Blogger Burnout, Y'all...(like you didn't already know)

Vahni of Grit and Glamour TOTALLY has me pegged with this article she wrote for IFB.  Like I’m-looking-for-the-hidden-camera pegged.
Images from weheartit.com.  Click to view larger.

Obviously, this is no big news to you, loyal and patient blog reader (or similarly awesome person who stumbled across this URL- ‘sup?).  I am burnt out. I don’t really know how or why it happened, but since June-ish I have not been able to get excited about writing a post to save my life.  Or, I get excited about a post, allow my perfectionist-paranoid streak to take over, and edit the *$%& out of that thing until the moment, whatever it was, is past.  For instance: In July, I was invited to a “White Party.” At the time, I was seriously jonesing for a sexy white dress like this one that reality star Kristen Cavallari wore to a Nylon party on the show.  (Yeah, I watched “The Hills.” I LIKE TRASHY TV, OK?)  And pale neutrals were all the rage anyway, so I thought, what a great opportunity to write a post on white clothing!

No need to dig through the archives.  It’s not there.

It’s just one of many poor, dead posts hanging out in my draft folder, never getting their place in the sun.  And you know, some are crappy and deserve to be there.  But some were short-shifted by my blogger-burnout state of mind.

And so we come to now.  I really love blogging.  I love writing and I love designing and I love all the nerdy tech stuff too.  The fact that I can reach out across the Interwebz to someone across the world thrills me.  The idea of reaching out to someone two blocks from me that I have never met gives me goose bumps.  What the Internet can do for community and human connection astounds me, but for awhile, I need a break.  And I’ve kind of been half-heartedly slumping toward it, so I’m going to go ahead and make it official: don’t expect to see anything here until New Years.  I am finishing the year up and then starting anew, hoping that I can jump in and participate in this amazing conversation that is the blogosphere.
Found at www.vacationcounts.com

For the record, I’m sorry I’ve been absent.  Not because I think you’re checking the blog everyday (though that would be AWESOME and I would love you forever), but because I miss reading your comments and your blog posts and having that conversation with all of you.  So I’ll be back, but not until after a nice healthy dose of real world holiday cheer.  And not until after I’m done with finals (my last EVER), this seasonal job at Borders (mall job, y’all.  Yeah…), actually DOING all the freelance work I’ve been pushing to the side, and after I do some of the legwork for my impending and scary-as-hell job hunt a.k.a. first foray into big girl land.

See you in 2011, y'all!
